A Paraconsistent Logic for Contrary-to-Duty Imperatives

چکیده
Contrart-to-duty imperatives are those which tell us what we ought to do if we violate some of our obligations. In this work, we give an inconsistencyfriendly framework for contrary-to-duty imperatives and introduce three semantics for it: static, dynamic and topological. The static semantics uses the standard modal paraconsistent approach whereas the dynamic semantics views violations as dynamic updates of the model. The topological semantics, on the other hand, underlines the depth and the richness of paraconsistent models. After discussing different paraconsistent models for contraryto-duty imperatives, we briefly discuss some applications.

Collective Imperatives and Deadlines
Our focus is on the specification and verification of normative systems that include contrary-to-duty, collective and event-driven imperatives with deadlines. We propose an operational syntax and semantics for the specification of such systems. Using Maude and its model checker, we show how Linear Temporal Logic properties can be verified, and provide some experimental results.
متن کاملCorporate Profitability Analysis: A Novel Application for Paraconsistent Logic
This study explores the application of paraconsistent annotated evidential logic for analyzing the profitability of companies. We implemented a model that allocated degrees of favorable and contrary evidence to selected profitability ratios, defined using data from sixty-seven food industry companies. The degrees of favorable and contrary evidence assigned to each profitability index were based...
متن کاملRealistic Belief Revision
In this paper we consider the implications for belief revision of weakening the logic under which belief sets are taken to be closed. A widely held view is that the usual belief revision functions are highly classical, especially in being driven by consistency. We show that, on the contrary, the standard representation theorems still hold for paraconsistent belief revision. Then we give conditi...
متن کاملDeontic Logic
The chapter is organized in ten sections, each of them presenting a fundamental issue or problem in the area of deontic logic. Section 10.2 is about the issue of norms and truth, i.e., whether norms should have truth value. It opposes deontic logic viewed as a logic of normative propositions to deontic logic viewed as a logic of imperatives. Section 10.3 deals with the problem of contrary-to-du...
متن کاملLogics of Deontic Inconsistency
The Logics of Formal Inconsistency (LFIs) are paraconsistent logics which internalize the notions of consistency and inconsistency by means of connectives. Based on that idea, in this paper we propose two deontic systems in which contradictory obligations are allowed, without trivializing the system. Thus, from conflicting obligations Oφ and O¬φ contained in (or derived from) an information set...
